GOBIQUITY MOBILE HEALTH™ GENERATES MAJOR GROWTH IN Q1 WITH STRATEGIC FUNDING, NEW CEO AND RELOCATION Jun 2015
June 30, 2015 - Gobiquity Mobile Health (Gobiquity™), a company that develops innovative mobile applications bringing specialty diagnostics to primary care, has closed its Series A round with strategic investment from Salesforce.com founder and CEO, Marc Benioff and venture capital firm, InterWest Partners. The company also named Andrew Burns as the new CEO. Gobiquity has garnered major commercial traction and moved its headquarters to Scottsdale, AZ, taking space in the city’s rapidly growing “Cure Corridor.” Gobiquity anticipates growing its team in business operations as well as mobile and image science research and development, driving an expanded product portfolio and creating job opportunities.
Gobiquity’s CEO Andrew Burns previously served as Chief Commercial Officer, responsible for sales, strategy, and marketing. Prior to joining Gobiquity, Burns spent three years with Sermo, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, and nine years at Epocrates, where he served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Alliances and Business Development. He has experience building and leading high-growth businesses, development of partnerships, spearheading acquisitions, and commercializing innovative digital solutions, including positioning the launch of the first medical app in Apple’s AppStore.
Gobiquity launched GoCheck Kids™, the world’s first and only pediatric vision screener on a smartphone, at the end of 2014, and has already achieved a significant milestone by eclipsing 13 thousand screenings performed. GoCheck Kids incorporates a cloud-based HIPAA compliant platform that screens and analyzes a photo of a child's eyes in real time, determining risk factors for amblyopia, the leading cause of vision loss in children. Traditional vision testing performed by pediatricians with visual acuity charts requires a verbal response, making it impractical for younger patients. Consequently, many children with risk factors are not identified early enough for treatment. Today, it is estimated that 15% of children between the ages of 6 months to 6 years have amblyopia risk factors, yet less than 20% of children are screened. GoCheck Kids addresses this critical medical need by enabling pediatricians to conduct cost-effective photoscreening, diagnose risk factors sooner, and facilitate more efficient clinical decision-making to create brighter futures.
“We’ve experienced exciting change and strong momentum in a short period of time,” said Burns. “With the additional funding and change of location we’re in an ideal position for continued growth. Since the launch of GoCheck Kids, we’ve led the way in mobile vision diagnostics, specifically developed to support prevention, early detection and monitoring for health constituents, primarily pediatricians. As we expand, our mobile suite of products and services will deliver great benefit to not only improve the lives of children, but to also address the 85% of preventable or treatable cases for all of the 285 million people that have vision impairment. ”
Gobiquity is dedicated to blending expertise in medical devices with mobile health application design and broad deployment to create a new paradigm in diagnostics. The low capital cost, expandability of the platform and simplicity of distribution make mobile diagnostics a natural solution for primary care. Purpose built instruments can’t compete.
